2015 Stanly Ranch Dijon 115 Pinot Noir
At Saintsbury, we taste through all of our small lot wines each year before we release them. If we taste one that especially stands out as an exceptional wine and a shining example of the new vintage, we give it a special designation. As an homage to our namesake George Saintsbury's famous book, we label it a CELLARBOOK wine. We do not take this declaration lightly and make sure that these are only our best of the best wines for you to enjoy now or after extended cellaring.
An iconic vineyard within the Carneros AVA, Stanly Ranch was originally planted in 1870 by Judge Stanly. Saintsbury’s relationship with Stanly Ranch formed in 1984 and this partnership remains intimate despite the popularity of the site. Today, we enjoy exclusive access to the Stanly Ranch grapes from 3 hillside blocks which sit on clay loam soil, allowing for excellent exposure , drainage and development of the fruit.
Appellation: Carneros, Napa
Clone: Dijon 115
Terroir: Clay loam soils with mix of exposures from hillside blocks creating a bright fruit Pinot noir with a touch of spiciness.
The fruit is night harvested and arrives on the crushpad at daybreak. From there, each block remains separate and receives gentle handling starting on the sorting table and to the open top fermenters for 5 day cold soak, 14 day total cuvaison.
